The League of Women Voters of Ohio is pleased to announce the receipt of the Joyce Foundation Grant for Election Reform. This $250,000 grant will be spent in Ohio on reform issues including election administration, judicial independence, transparency in government, campaign finance reform and redistricting.
“This grant will be put immediately to use on the priorities of redistricting and election administration” states Board President Linda Lalley. “In 2010, Ohio will begin the process of redistricting and reapportionment as well as the election of state wide officers and legislators and we want to be prepared for those deciding moments by having the best election system and redistricting plan in place” she continues. “The Joyce Foundation Grant will allow us to meet those goals.”
Trustees Donna Marie Lossing Jones and Kathy Jones expressed their excitement about the grant as an opportunity to continue to engage the electorate after the 2008 presidential election. “The reforms proposed by the League of Women Voters of Ohio will bring about vital changes and give greater and improved representation to Ohio citizens”, states Board Secretary Meg Flack. “Citizens have a right to a transparent, fair and representative government in Ohio and this grant will allow the League engage in efforts to accomplish that”.
The grant will fund League programs including town hall meetings, grassroots lobbying activities and the development of educational materials for each of the five reform areas. Grant activities will begin the fall of 2008.
